Pauline Chanoit, expert in modern and contemporary paintings, drawings and sculptures

Pauline Chanoit

Pauline Chanoit, a career marked by passion and transmission

Pauline Chanoit, with her vivacity and talent, is much more than Frédérick Chanoit's daughter. While it's true that she inherits her love of art from her father, a renowned auctioneer who founded his own appraisal firm at Drouot in the 1990s, it's her own academic quest that has shaped her expert vision. After graduating with a double degree in law and art history, as well as a diploma from the École du Louvre, Pauline took over the management of her family's appraisal firm. With a fresh eye, a refreshed perspective, and a mastery of modern tools, she pushes the boundaries of traditional appraisal, offering clients an innovative and reliable approach.

Pioneers of the 19th and 20th centuries

The 19th century saw the birth and flowering of a multitude of artistic movements, from the fiery fires of Romanticism with artists such as Eugène Delacroix, to the luminous effervescence of Impressionism embodied by Claude Monet and Édouard Manet. Post-Impressionism was marked by the intensity of Vincent Van Gogh and the exotic palettes of Paul Gauguin. However, it was in the 20th century that art took a multitude of bold directions. Cubism deconstructed reality, led by figures such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.

At the same time, the world of drawing was captivated by the simplicity of Henri Matisse and the bold eroticism ofEgon Schiele. Salvador Dalí, meanwhile, plunged into the depths of the subconscious with Surrealism. On the sculpture front, the romanticism of Auguste Rodin evolved into 20th-century abstraction and minimalism, with artists like Naum Gabo and Donald Judd redefining space and form. Barbara Hepworth marked an era with her distinctive approach to abstract sculpture. These artists, among many others, shaped a century of art, leaving a priceless legacy for future generations.
