Artist's style and technique

An outstanding decorator, Liaigre created his own style. He is often referred to as the "great minimalist". His furniture is characterized by straight lines, light colors and total purity. His products include sofas, armchairs, tables and lighting fixtures.

The life of Christian Liaigre

Christian Liage is a French interior designer born in 1943.

Born in Niort, he entered the Beaux-Arts de Paris at the age of 17, then the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, specializing in this field. Alberto Giacometti introduced him to Brancusi and his work, which influenced him at the start of his career. After spending some time breeding horses, he returned to the Arts Décoratifs, designing a series of furniture for Nobilis. He opened his first store in 1985. Building on his success, he decorated the Montalembert hotel in Paris's 7th arrondissement. This was followed by the Mercer hotêl in Soho, New York. His career takes an international turn: the artist is particularly appreciated by the American market, which demands sober, minimalist furniture.

The international press linked him to Karl Lagerfeld, who was developing the XXS silhohette for Chanel at the same time.

By the end of his career, Liaigre had stores all over the world, although his main gallery was on rue de Verneuil in Paris.

He died in the 7th arrondissement in 2020.
