The life of Helmut Kolle

Helmut vom Hügel Kolle (1899 - 1931) was born into a family of scientists in Charlottenburg. He studied painting as a child and decided to make it his profession. His real name was Helmut Kolle, but he was also known by the pseudonym Helmut vom Hügel. From 1919, he worked for Wilhem Uhde, before settling permanently in Berlin. He exhibited his paintings there. He became Wilhem Uhde's lover, followed him to Paris in 1924, then settled permanently with him in Chantilly when he fell seriously ill. His career was short-lived, as he died at the age of 22.

Collected by Jean Cocteau and the de Rothschild family, he was the most exhibited artist in Paris between the wars. Some of his works are held by the Centre Pompidou, as well as other museums in France and Germany.

He paints mostly men.
