Rating and artist's value Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz left behind a singular body of work in the Impressionist vein. Prices for his works are now rising under the auctioneer's hammer. His paintings are particularly prized, especially by English and French buyers. The price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €180 to €9,000, a substantial gap but one that says a lot about the value that can be attributed to Yarz's works. In 2023, his oil on canvas Les voiles blanches dans le port sold for €2,000, whereas it was estimated at between €1,000 and €1,500.

Style and technique by Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz was a painter of the second half of the 19th century, to whom no particular movement is really associated. He specialized in landscape painting and produced mainly oils on canvas. There are also a few drawings. If we were to assign him a current, it would be either realism or impressionism, depending on the work.

The life of Edmond Yarz

Edmond Yarz (1845 - 1920), a 19th-century painter, is relatively unknown to the general public. He was born in Toulouse into a relatively well-off family.

He learns painting and drawing techniques at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. It was there that he decided to produce landscape drawings and paintings.

He moves to Paris, where the art world is more prolific for him than in Toulouse, and settles in a studio on rue Montmartre with the painter Benjamin-Constant.

He exhibited canvases at the Salon almost every year, and his work was noticed by Appolinaire, who described one of his paintings as "trompe l'œil impressionism".

Like the Barbizon painters, he drew inspiration for his work not only from the landscapes of Ile de France, but also from his hometown.

Edmond Yarz's imprint on his era

Edmond Yarz did not leave much of an imprint on his time. He was noticed by a few critics when he exhibited. Today, his work is less famous, but he remains highly regarded on the art market.

Its value is currently stable on the auction market.
