Style and technique of artist Louis Buisseret

Louis Buisseret chooses to remain within the academic canons acquired during his training at the Beaux-Arts schools in Mons and Brussels, but only in terms of the representation of bodies and the use of color. In his choice of subjects, he is often shocking and out of the ordinary. In general, he would be better described as a "neo-humanist", thanks to his membership of the Nervia group of artists.

Louis Buisseret, a forgotten figure of the 20th century

Louis Buisseret (1888-1956), a Belgian artist, has become a forgotten figure among the general public.

He began his studies at the Mons School of Fine Arts, where his teachers included Louis Greuze and Émile Motte. He then continued his training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He won the Prix de Rome Belge, which awarded him a scholarship. He also won first prize for engraving. With other painters, he founds the Nervia group, which refers to Latin antiquity and promotes Walloon art in opposition to Flemish expressionism. Several artists, including Geo Verbank, were close to this group.

Louis Buisseret's imprint on twentieth-century art

Louis Buisseret was not a very famous painter in his lifetime, and still isn't today. However, his value is on the rise and he is a popular artist on the auction market, as his works follow the academic canons, and the Nervia group is well known to Belgian and French collectors.

Recognizing the artist's signature

Louis Buisseret's works are not all signed, especially his drawings and prints. This is why the estimate is so high.
