Louis Rollet's style and technique
Louis Rollet was a realist painter who also produced orientalist works (characterized by inspiration from the Orient or the Far East, which for him was mainly Vietnam), drawing much of his inspiration from Delacroix and Toulouse-Lautrec. He produced drawings, oils on canvas and a few prints.
The life of Louis Rollet
Louis Marcel Édouard Rollet (1895 - 1988) was a 20th-century French painter.
His father, an engraver, introduced him to the world of art and artists at an early age.
He studied with Ferdinand Cormon and Jules Adler. From 1921, he wins a gold medal. He exhibits at the Salon des Indépendants, and at the Société Coloniale des Artistes Français.
Inspired by the Orient and the Far East, he was awarded the Prix de l'Indochine in 1935.
His paintings are characteristically Orientalist - inspired by the landscapes of North Africa and Japan, using the European painting techniques of the time.
