The artist's works and style

Maurice Marinot never ceases to amaze with his creativity in glass, from chalices to vases and goblets. His glass objects, sometimes blown or smoked, captivate the eye. The flasks, in particular, reflect a Fauvist influence in an Art Deco style, inspired by the Daum brothers.

Maurice Marinot also gained significant recognition as a painter. Indeed, it was through painting that he first made a name for himself. His pictorial works reflect a keen interest in landscapes, still lifes and the theme of motherhood, offering a pretext for exploring shapes and colors.

Maurice Marinot, his life and work

Maurice Marinot was born in Troyes in 1882. Born into a family of hosiery makers, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1901.

In 1911, during a visit to the Viard brothers' glassworks, his career took an unexpected turn. Indeed, the young man was so impressed by the experience that he decided to devote himself to this activity. Maurice Marinot brought his painting expertise to glassmaking, bringing innovation to a field that was rarely subject to it. The finesse of his work convinced the critics of his talent.

Maurice Marinot's glassworks are mainly bowls, vases and bottles. Using fine glass, he enamels them with a varied palette of colors.

From 1919 onwards, he gradually thickened the glass to highlight the material itself. He experimented with innovative techniques such as interleaving, giving life and movement to his creations. Each piece is unique, the result of craftsmanship rather than mass production. Although he stopped working with glass in 1937, Marinot continued to paint for many years.

Throughout his career as a glassmaker, Maurice Marinot enjoyed phenomenal success. He was considered a master of the art of glass, and numerous exhibitions were organized to celebrate his work. In 1925, a retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him in Lyon, testifying to the recognition of his talent.

Maurice Marinot's works are not all signed, which is why expertise is important.
