The career of Blanche Hoschedé Monet

Blanche Hoschedé Monet was a German artist born in 1807. She was born in Paris, and studied painting with Louis Hersent and Louise Hersent.

Following in Louise Hersent's footsteps, she took over the direction of the women's painting school set up in Paris's 6th arrondissement, to be succeeded by Auguste Gallimard, a position for which she is most famous in 19th-century art history.  

Louise Desnos exhibited her paintings at the Salon from 1831 to 1853, and in this capacity produced many portraits, including that of French King Louis Philippe and copies of those of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.

She died in the Somme in 1878.

Blanche Hoschedé Monet left her mark on nineteenth-century art, and is today a little-known but much sought-after artist, famous more for her contribution to the training of women painters in the nineteenth century than for her works per se.
