Rating and value of works by Alice Colonieu

Alice Colonieu is a French artist well known to ceramics enthusiasts. If you own one of her works, it may be worth more than you think. On the art market, Colonieu's works can fetch very high prices under the auctioneer's hammer.

His ceramic works are particularly prized by French and American buyers, and the price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €30 to €6,000, a fairly substantial range, but one that says a lot about the value that can be attributed to the artist's work.

Alice Colonieu, New Modernity ceramist

Alice Colonieu (1924-2010), French ceramist, produced unique, elegant and original ceramic works. She was born in Marseille, into a family from the Vaucluse region.

She studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille during the war, then at a ceramics school to specialize in this field. She settled near Orange and created a variety of ceramics without using molds, notably with the colombin.

She paints her ceramics with bright colors, giving them a unique vitality and energy. She exhibited her work at the Salon des Arts Décoratifs and became a member of the Fédération des Métiers d'Art. In the 60s, she benefited from the "1% artistique" scheme, which enabled her to finance some of her works. After collaborating with decorators such as Jules Leleu and Jean Royère, she decided to cease ceramics production in the mid-60s due to growing tourism, to the detriment of the artistic creations of local ceramists and other artists. She agreed to carry out only certain specific commissions.

A solo exhibition was devoted to him in 1992.

She died in Roaix in 2010, aged 85.
