The artist's works and style

Jean Le Mayeur is a twentieth-century luminist painter, a term referring to a variety of Belgian painters, often pointillists, with Dutch influences.

He produced mainly oils on canvas, but also drawings.

The life of Jean Le Mayeur

Jean Le Mayeur (1880 - 1958) was born in Brussels. He was the son of Adrien le Mayeur, also a painter.

He studied architecture and civil engineering at the Université libre de Bruxelles. He then learned painting from his father and the painter Ernest-Blanc Garin. He traveled to North Africa and Tunisia, before settling in Bali, where he used Balinese dancers as models for his paintings.

His first exhibition in Singapore was a great success.

After Indonesia's independence, the minister visited the home of Le Mayeur and one of his models, now his wife, and suggested they turn it into a museum.

Following a bout with cancer, he had to return to Belgium for treatment. He died in Brussels two months after his arrival, leaving his wife to run the Le Mayeur museum in Bali.

Jean Le Mayeur's imprint on his period

Jean Le Mayeur left his mark on the world of art through his consistent production and the uniqueness of his Balinese inspirations. Today, the artist's value continues to rise on the art market.

His works are highly prized, especially the oils on canvas.
