Boris Riabouschinsky, Russian wildlife painter

Boris Riabouschinsky, known as Riab, (1898-1975) was a Russian painter who worked mainly on animal subjects.

Born into a wealthy family, he received an artistic education from childhood. He does not appear to have taken any painting or drawing courses in Russia, but may have done so in France, where he emigrated during the Russian Revolution, like many of his colleagues.

He frequented artists from the School of Paris, who exerted a certain influence on his work, but his personal focus was on depicting animals - particularly dogs, and especially hunting dogs.

Boris Riabouschinsky's imprint on his era

Boris Riabouschinsky didn't make a lasting impression on his era. He was known to some collectors, but his clientele remained fairly closed during his lifetime. Today, his works are still sought after by some collectors.
