The artist's works and style

Antonio Tempesta's works are remarkable, inventive and evocative. His unique style blends mannerism and religious subjects, creating visually captivating compositions. Most of his work is inspired by biblical subjects, whether the life of Christ or that of the saints who have traversed the Christian religion over the centuries.

The life of Antonio Tempesta

Antonio Tempesta was a Mannerist painter born in Florence in 1555.

He trained with Giovanni Stradano, and together they decorated the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. He not only produced canvases, but also worked on numerous frescoes, including some in Rome for Pope Gregory XIII. His style was late Mannerist - and much appreciated by the nobility of the capital, from whom he received numerous commissions.

Back in Florence, he produced some ceilings for the Uffizi Gallery, before returning to Rome, where he explored the medium of engraving, little used at the time.

Antonio Tempesta's imprint on his era

His unique style, combining mannerism and religious subjects, influenced many artists of the time and continues to be admired by art lovers today.

He painted the frescoes and ceilings of many of Italy's most important buildings, including the Vatican maps, the Church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini in Rome, the Galleria dei Offices... although he is relatively unknown to the general public. Today, his works are highly regarded on the art market.
