Carlo Bugatti, a cabinetmaker between Milan and Paris

Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) was born in Milan. His father, Giovani Liugi Bugatti, was already a renowned sculptor in Italy. He studied first at the Beaux-arts in Bréa, then in Paris. In 1880, he began designing and selling furniture in Milan, and was soon successful. He took part in the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition, where he won a silver medal. He also exhibited several times in Italy.

He then moved to Paris, where he produced less. In Alsace, where he spent the last years of his life, he opened a factory where his furniture was built and produced. Carlo Bugatti had three children, including Ettore Bugatti, founder of Bugatti luxury cars. He left behind a considerable body of work, which is quite varied and quoted at auction.
