Rating and value of Chaumet brooches & jewelry
History of Chaumet
A French jewellery and watchmaking house established in Paris since 1780 and founded by a collaborator of Marie-Antoinette 's jeweller , Marie-Etienne Nitot, Chaumet has been among the greatest for centuries. Only twenty years after its creation, the company became the official jeweller for Napoleon I and the Empress Josephine and served the Empire in its quest for luxury, fashion and a demonstration of finesse. The company moved to the Place Vendôme in 1812.
Chaumet jewellery is distinguished by artistic renewal but also by a constant finesse. After the Empire fashion, the jewels of the house are part of the romantic trend and are inspired by nature, a theme widely exploited by the Bourbons and other distinguished clients through their jewellery. The popularity of the house grew in the 20th century thanks to globalisation and princes from foreign countries appropriated the jewels, watches and other ornaments. In the 1920s Chaumet innovated and adopted the avant-garde Art-deco style: an astonishing fusion of cubism and futurism, the reinterpretation of geometric shapes that embraced the new allure of the women of the Roaring Twenties. The emphasis was on accessories, particularly brooches with their surprisingly rich shapes, colours and materials. Chaumet continues to make a name for itself in the 21st century through its flagship collections "Joséphine", "Bee my love" and "Liens".
Chaumet jewellery at auction
On the market for centuries, requests for appraisals of Chaumet jewelry are frequent in the auction world. Innovation and the consistency of unchanging materials place Chaumet among the most sought-after. As a jeweler and watchmaker, Chaumet's many hats ensure its well-deserved popularity. Gold jewelry, watches and accessories are set with diamonds and precious stones, and mounted with extreme refinement. Art-Deco pieces arealso a popular feature at auctions, bringing a real freshness to the shapes and novelty of some very colorful pieces. The Maison's creations can achieve bidding volumes in the thousands, even for the smallest pieces.
Why sell your Chaumet jewellery at auction?
The assistance of an auctioneer in the valuation and auction of Chaumet jewellery is necessary. The composition of the pieces and their rarity require an in-depth expertise. The reputation of the house is such that counterfeits are frequent. The expertise of an auctioneer makes it possible to detect fakes. It is a guarantee of quality and the assurance of the veracity of the item to the buyer. The professional will be able to carry out research with the Chaumet company, in libraries, but also to be accompanied by experts in gemology, jewellery or other fields to enhance the object and give it a pedigree that will increase its value. In this sense, the Chaumet jewellery and accessories auction ensures the owner a professional presentation of his object, its publicity and the solicitation of a network of buyers allowing the piece to be sold at the best possible price.
