A free conference to travel in time

Hosted by Maître Céline Béral, auctioneer, the conference on 18th century tableware promises to be fascinating. The 18th century was a period of great artistic effervescence in Europe. Tableware was not spared from this wave of creativity and experienced unprecedented developments. Tableware was often a work of art in itself, with exquisite designs, elaborate carvings and luxurious materials.

This lecture will give participants the opportunity to discover how tableware was used as a tool of prestige and social distinction. Eighteenth-century aristocrats sought to impress their guests with exceptional tableware, including dozens of pieces of silver, vermeil, or porcelain. Glasses and decanters were also key elements of the table, designed to reflect the wealth and sophistication of the guests.

Beyond their primary function, tableware was a true expression of the art of living and culture of the 18th century, in the French style.

The conference is free, open to all, with prior registration.
