The artist's works and style

Olga Rozanova is close to the Suprematist movement, following in Malevich's footsteps. However, the influences on her work are manifold, and include Analytic Cubism. She produces drawings, prints and paintings as well as sculptures, the latter of which have never before been shown at auction.

The life of Olga Rozanova

Olga Vladimirovna Rozanova (1886-1918) was a Russian avant-garde artist.

Born in Melenki, she studied at the Stroganov School of Applied Arts, then became a member of the Youth Union group, whose manifesto she wrote. With her colleague Elena Gouro, she theorized new aesthetic ideas, bringing together abstraction, analytical cubism and suprematism. She called for the exclusion of all repetition in painting, and to achieve this, for liberation from the social and literary conventions that, in her view, condition art.

Later in her short career, she moved closer to Russian Futurism, interesting in its search for volume and new forms.

In the end, like Malevich, she found the answer to her theoretical questions in Suprematism - a movement and an intellectual approach tending towards total abstraction through a gradual process. Remaining within the same paradigm, she produced works that heralded Abstract Expressionism at the end of her career.

Olga Rozanova's imprint on her period

Olga Rozanova made a lasting impression with her substantial artistic output. She is better known to the Russian public at large, but her works are very successful at auction and her value continues to rise. Some of her works are held in museums, but private collectors play the greatest role in preserving her work.
