Rating and value of the artist Georges Annenkov

Annenkov is a Russian-born painter who is relatively unknown to the general public. He left behind a unique artistic repertoire characteristic of Russian Expressionism. This legacy consists of paintings that are predominantly oils on canvas. Today, prices for his works are skyrocketing under auctioneers' hammers. His paintings and other works are particularly prized, especially by European, Russian and American buyers, and the price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €50 to €4,425,400, a considerable delta but one that speaks volumes about the value that can be attributed to Annenkov's works. Style and technique of artist Georges Annenkov

Georges Annenkov, a little-known but much-loved painter

Russian-born artist Yuri Pavlovich Annenkov (1889-1974) became a sought-after figure among collectors, as did Krachkowsky and Bessonov. He is known as Georges Annenkov.

He graduated from the St. Petersburg School of Fine Arts, and works signed by him are known from 1913 onwards. He also trained at the Zidenberg school, where he frequented Marc Chagall. Moving to Paris in 1911, he frequented the studio of Félix Valotton, a little-known painter of the turn of the century.

His interest in science led him to take courses in biology, including microscopic observations of marine corals. His stay in Paris lasted only two years, as he returned to Russia in 1913. His paintings combine Cubist, Surrealist and Expressionist influences. He makes extensive use of the color blue, characteristic of the German Expressionists.

However, Annenkov not only painted and drew, he was also, like many Russian artists of his time, a ballet decorator. He practiced this activity for over ten years in Russia, but was forced to return to Paris in 1924 by the Soviet regime, which was very hostile to Expressionists. He continued to paint throughout his career, dying in Paris in 1974 at the age of 85.

Annenkov's imprint on his period

Annenkov left his mark on his era in Russia and France, although the general public no longer remembers him today. Nevertheless, his technical mastery is of interest to collectors, and his works are highly sought-after on the auction market.

Recognizing Georges Annekov's signature

George Annenkov's paintings are often signed in the lower left-hand corner. He signs with his first and last names, often in a dark tone; sometimes with the town where he painted the picture, or the date.
