Style and technique of the artist André Thuret

André Thuret doesn't really belong to any particular artistic movement. To create his pieces, he always starts with transparent glass, which he blows and transforms. His pieces are characterized by a rare elegance and a meticulous choice of colors.

André Thuret, chemist turned artist

André Thuret (1898-1965) was born, raised and educated in Paris. He graduated in chemistry and law. From 1922, he held a succession of engineering positions at the Bagneux and Bezons glassworks. This gave him the opportunity to acquire glassmaking techniques. In 1925, he took part in the Decorative Arts exhibition and was awarded an honorary diploma.

The following year, he was appointed head of the Chemistry Chair at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers. This enabled him to pass on his passion and talent. He also works for the Paris Court of Appeal, where he conducts expert appraisals.

Thanks to his training as a chemist, he can perfect his technical mastery of glass and achieve breathtaking results. He blows his glass at over 1000 degrees C.

The success of André Thuret's glass pieces

André Thuret produces exceptional pieces, whose shapes and motifs evolve over the course of his career. He creates his own molds to give his glass pieces unique shapes. Thanks to his knowledge of chemistry, he is able to color some of his creations.

He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and across the Atlantic. At the end of his career, he returned to pieces with smooth walls, which were less sophisticated but just as elegant.

Recognizing André Thuret's signature
