Style and technique of the artist René Coutelle
René Coutelle uses a variety of materials in his sculptures, including marble, onyx, alabaster and granite for the stones, but also precious woods such as ebony. His sculptures are pure, contemporary art.
René Coutelle's career
René Coutelle was born in Sarthe in 1927. Very few details are known about his life.
Coutelle sculpts with free rein, working with materials that carry within them a strength guided by what he calls"their right feeling". He also mentions that in the arts of the Caribbean, Africa and Cambodia, as well as in romance literature, he discovers a simple form of poetry that enables him to express and suggest primitive, natural beauty through sculpted forms. These forms exude a particular harmony, fullness, density and precision. His sculptures seem to animate a deep, sincere aura that resonates in perfect harmony with his artistic language.
With discretion, he explores original inner impulses and transposes them into forms that seek to blossom in space, translating an upward dynamic that characterizes his artistic work. His favorite themes, such as Torsos, Couples and Birds, allow for a simultaneous transformation of bodies. The curves of her sculptures release a vital momentum that promotes metamorphosis, capturing natural movements in frozen forms. The sculpted forms seem to follow gentle, subtle undulations, echoing the sculptures ofIgor Mitoraj.
