The life of Georges Souillet
Georges Souillet, a French artist born in Tours in 1861, pursued a remarkable artistic career. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tours before perfecting his skills in Paris underAlexandre Cabanel and Léon Bonnat. He distinguished himself as a landscape painter and exhibited his work at various art salons in Paris and other French cities. In addition to his artistic achievements, he won a competition to decorate the Tours Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Souillet also took part in artistic missions during the First World War and played an important role as curator of the Kerazan manor house, where he set up a painting school. His contribution to art earned him the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. He died in Paris in 1947.
