The artist's works and style

Described as postimpressionist, symbolist and expressionist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's style is characterized by the use of bold colors and sharp contrasts. His vivid, expressive strokes of color gave his compositions a dynamic visual effect, and his simplified forms a sense of movement and energy.

Also influenced by symbolism, the artist sought to express his emotions and dreams through his art. Thus, Toulouse-Lautrec incorporated symbolic elements into his works, including allusions to the human condition and psychology, as seen in his portraits of dancers, cabaret singers and nightlife characters.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was born in 1864 into a noble French family. In Paris, he quickly acquired a taste for bohemian life. The cabarets, brothels and nightlife of Montmartre greatly inspired his work.

Toulouse-Lautrec also excelled in the art of portraiture. He was determined to bring out what he couldn't see, expressing the psychological depth of his subjects.
