Artist's style and technique

Most of his work is expressionist, and he produced many prints, as well as drawings and oils on canvas.
The life of Jean Le Moal
Jean Olivier Joseph Le Moal was born in 1909 in Authon du Perche, Eure et Loir. After his mother's death at an early age, he attended boarding school at the Lycée d'Annecy, where he became interested in sculpture and engraving. He began his artistic training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He moved to Paris in 1929 and copied paintings from the Louvre. He worked in various studios in Montmartre, notably with Othon Friesz. Inspired by the Catalan frescoes he discovered in Barcelona, he enrolled at the Académie Ranson. He worked under the supervision of Maillol, but also in collaboration with Robert Delaunay. He was one of the founders of the New Paris School, which had links with degenerate art.
After the war, he held several exhibitions and experimented with stained-glass painting, creating stained-glass windows for the cathedrals of Nantes and Rennes. Preparatory drawings for these works are often exhibited at auction.
His painting has stylistic links with that ofOlivier Debrébut also with Maurice Estève.
The artist died in 2007, and numerous retrospectives were held before and after his death.
Jean Le Moal's imprint on his period
Jean Le Moal is not a well-known painter, either in his lifetime or today. His figurative and expressionist paintings are, however, appreciated by collectors and have a certain success at auction. Some of his works are exhibited in museums in France, but private collectors play a major role in preserving his work. His market value has remained stable in recent years.
