The artist's works and style

Line Vautrin's works are characterized by a bold aesthetic in their own right. They reflect a harmonious blend of femininity, refinement and subtlety.

Often combining materials such as gilded bronze, resin and lacquer, the artist's jewelry is unique and elegant. Line Vautrin uses geometric motifs such as stars, suns and stylized faces, inspired by African art and ancient Egypt.

Her highly original work fuses tradition and modernity, creating timeless pieces. Described as avant-garde, Line Vautrin's works captivate the eye.

Line Vautrin, a unique sculptor of her time

Line Vautrin was born in 1913 into a family of metalworkers. The young artist produced her first jewels and creations at just 21, without any prior artistic training.

She quickly made a name for herself and presented her work at the 1937 Universal Exhibition. Her diverse and refined jewelry made a lasting impression. It was the beginning of the designer's renown. The following year, Line Vautrin opened her own boutique on the Champs Elysées.

Always on the lookout for new techniques, Line Vautrin experimented with lacquer, gilded bronze and resin. This research even led her to invent her own process, called "talosel", in which colored resin is applied to mirrors or bronze plates, creating unique geometric patterns and optical effects. This new material aroused the interest of many art lovers.

In the early '40s and '50s, Line Vautrin broadened her range of creations to include decorative objects such as mirrors, boxes and trays. Not only a jewelry and objets d'art designer, Line Vautrin embellishes her creations with a few lines of poetry. A powder case, for example, was auctioned in February 2022 at Hôtel Drouot, on which she carved a sonnet by Félix Avers entitled Mon âme a son secret, ma vie a son mystère.

In the 80s, she decided to retire from the art scene for a while. Forgotten for a while, it was the London collector David Gill who brought her second success. Her work was again awarded the Prix National des Métiers d'Art in 1992.

After several major exhibitions around the world, Line Vautrin, a tireless creator, died at the age of 84.

Line Vautrin's legacy

Her important artistic legacy is marked by her tireless quest for elegance and delicacy, combined with her passion. As a self-taught artist, Line Vautrin has forged her own path, ignoring ephemeral trends and artistic movements. This renowned designer embodies her original and unique style. Today, she is one of the most sought-after 20th-century artists on the auction market.
