The history of Steph Simon Editions

Stéphane Simon is a businessman born in 1902, who launched Steph Simon Editions in 1953. Initially a salesman in various fields, notably aluminum, he launched into contemporary furniture after receiving an insurance indemnity. He already had experience in the production and marketing of furniture, as well as in the materials used to make it.

Jean Prouvé, a 20th-century furniture designer, helps him set up a furniture marketing strategy.

From 1949, he invited Charlotte Perriand to work with him in the furniture department of Les Ateliers, the company that owns Steph Simon Editions. She accepted, which is why many pieces of Charlotte Perriand's furniture on the auction market were, and still are in some cases, edited and marketed by Steph Simon.

A few years later, he officially opened his gallery at 145 boulevard Saint Germain, one of the few to have such a visible space in Paris, while the Knoll publisher still only had a courtyard.

The Steph Simon gallery receives numerous commissions, including furnishings for university residences and public spaces, from Paris to Japan, via the United States, where clients are great fans of contemporary furniture.

Iconic furniture designers

In order to grow and acquire worldwide renown, Steph Simon Editions has surrounded itself with the greatest designers of the 20th century. They include Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand and Georges Jouve.

They are emblematic names of twentieth-century design, who have left their mark on contemporary furniture and contributed to Steph Simon's worldwide reputation.

Recognizing furniture from Steph Simon Editions

In most cases, furniture is signed by the designer (for Charlotte Perriand, for example, there is no signature) and bears a serial number. However, expertise is essential to ensure the originality of your furniture.
