The life of Verner Panton

Verner Panton was born in Denmark in 1926. After brilliant studies in engineering and architecture, Panton entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1951, designer Arne Jacobsen took him on as an apprentice. A few years later, Panton opened his own design studio.

Initially influenced by Jacobsen's highly organic style, Panton moved towards the avant-garde, creating geometric, unstructured and colorful furniture. But these new architectural contexts did not meet with unanimous approval, and shocked many.

His famous "Panton chair" was the first chair to be produced from a single piece of molded plastic. This creation brought him international recognition and was mass-produced by Herman Miller.

Also an avid traveler, Verner Panton explored many countries. These travels enabled him to establish numerous contacts throughout the world. As a result, his studio received numerous commissions for both architecture and furniture. Panton was chosen to design a large part of the Astoria Hotel in Trondheim, Norway.

Verner Panton's mark on his era

In great demand, Verner Panton's prestigious commissions continued until his death in 1998. Today considered one of the great icons of modern design, his legacy continues to influence the field of interior design and furniture. Today, his value is on the rise on the art market.
