The artist's works and style

Throughout his career, Serge Mouille's artistic output has been prolific and varied. His flagship works are lighting fixtures: wall lamps, pendant lights, table lamps... but also furniture with a very pure design, using a lot of black and wood.

The life of Serge Mouille

Serge Mouille was born in Paris in 1922. From a modest background, he entered the École des Arts Appliqués at the age of 13, where he obtained a diploma in silversmithing. He worked for a time in Gabriel Lacroix's workshop, before opening his own store in 1945, selling tableware. In 1955, he was elected to the Société des artistes décorateurs.

Steph Simon's gallery opened on Boulevard Saint Germain in 1954, where Serge Mouille exhibited alongside Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé. This led to public commissions for lighting fixtures, notably from the universities of Strasbourg and Aix-Marseille.

Suffering from tuberculosis, he was forced to slow down production in the late 50s. The designer ended his career with a collection combining fluorescence and incandescence, presented at the Salon des Arts ménagers.

He died in Villiers-sur-Marne in 1988.

Serge Mouille's imprint on his period

Serge Mouille left a considerable mark on his era. He excelled in the decorative arts, particularly in lighting design, and set an example for generations of artists to follow. His works are highly prized on the auction market, and their value continues to soar.
