The life of Georges Kars
Georg Karpeles, better known as Georges Kars, was born in the Czech Republic in 1880. As a child, Georges Kars developed an interest in art. He took painting lessons from a young artist before leaving to study in Munich in 1899. There, he made friends with Jules Pascin, Rodolphe Lévy and Paul Klee.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Kars settled in Madrid and moved towards Cubism, before turning his attention to the modern painting of Velázquez.
The young painter then moved to Paris, where he met Marc Chagall, Guillaume Apollinaire and Maurice Raynard.
Kars' art is appreciated by his contemporaries. Indeed, the artist exhibited several times at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. Georges Kars is also a member of the Paris School.
During the war, Kars went to Belgium and then Switzerland. Unable to bear the situation, Georges Kars committed suicide in 1945.
