Vladimir Velickovic is one of the leading exponents of figuration, his work focusing on the complexity and anatomy of the human body. He often depicts men in motion, bringing great detail to the drawing of muscles. He produces works in a variety of media, including oil on canvas, drawing and printmaking.

Vladimir Velickovic (1935-2019) was a figurative artist born in Belgrade, Serbia.

He began by studying architecture in Belgrade. After graduating, he realized that he was more interested in painting. Two years after graduating, he left to train in a studio in Zagreb.

In 1963, he held his first solo exhibition. In 1965, he won a prize at the Paris Biennale. He decided to settle in France to develop his business.

His career took a turning point in 1967, when he exhibited at the Galerie du Dragon. He won critical acclaim and received numerous commissions. After representing Yugoslavia at the Venice Biennale in 1972, he was appointed head of studio at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, before being elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2006.

Velickovic made a lasting impression on his era, developing narrative figuration through a more scientific approach, focused on the anatomy of the human body. The aesthetics of his works are highly appreciated at auction, and are sought after by certain collectors.
