An artist who worked mainly in Rouen during the 20th century, Robert Pinchon is close to Post-Impressionism. He mainly depicts landscape scenes, as well as the city of Rouen, with a particular focus on the Seine.
He works little with prints, producing more drawings and oils on canvas.
The life of Robert Pinchon
Robert Antoine Pinchon (1895-1977) was a landscape painter of the Rouen School.
After high school, the artist studied at the Beaux-Arts school in Rouen, initially focusing on Fauvism. He is noticed by François Depeaux, through whom he meets Piassarro and Claude Monet. He exhibited in Rouen and at the Salon d'Automne, and quickly made a name for himself.
He was one of the founders of the Group of Thirty, which included André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck and Henri Matisse.
His career was interrupted by the First World War, during which he was mobilized. He was taken prisoner and resumed painting after his convalescence.
Robert Pinchon's imprint on his period
Robert Pinchon left a lasting mark on his period in the region, but was not extremely well known during his lifetime. However, some collectors appreciate his work, and the majority of his canvases are privately owned.
