The life of Pietro de Francisco  

Pietro de Francisco (Francesco by birth) was a landscape painter born in Palermo in 1873.

He trained at the Palermo Institute of Fine Arts, studying with Lojacono and Marchesi.

After producing for some time in Palermo, he obtained a grant to move to Rome, where he continued his studies. Shortly after 1900, he was awarded the Prix de Rome.

In 1917, he published a book on the theory of painting, before turning his attention to Tunisian landscapes in the '20s - and then moving to Paris, where he further developed the exhibition of his work.

After obtaining French nationality, he moved to Saint-Tropez and then Menton, where he died in 1969.

His unique style, combining landscape and orientalism, influenced many artists of the time and continues to be admired by art lovers today.
