Style and technique of artist Max Moreau

Max Moreau was a realist painter who also produced orientalist works (characterized by inspiration from the Orient or the Far East; for him, this was mainly Algeria), drawing much of his inspiration from Delacroix. He produced drawings, oils on canvas and a few prints.

The life of Max Moreau

Max Léon Moreau (1902 - 1992) was a 20th-century Belgian Orientalist painter.

The son of a painter, he visited many museums as a child and was already producing copies of great masters such as Velasquez. His family moved to Paris around 1920, where he frequented the French Comédie and painted portraits inspired by the roles in the plays being performed there at the time.

He married in 1929 and from then on traveled constantly: North Africa was one of his favorite places. First Tunisia, then Morocco after a spell in Nice. Wherever he traveled, he frequented theaters, which were his main source of inspiration. Based in Marrakech, he often travels to France to exhibit and promote his paintings.

At the end of his career, he sold paintings in New York, but especially in Palm Beach, where he built up a network of loyal, wealthy customers.

Max Moreau has made a name for himself in the art world of the 20th century, devoting most of his work to painting the Orient. He is not very well known in Europe today, but his works are currently enjoying great success on the auction market. Private collectors are very interested in this artist.
