The life of Jean Gaston Mantel

Jean Gaston Mantel (1914 - 1995) was a 20th-century French Orientalist painter.

He studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and won the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts prize, which enabled him to move to Morocco to find new inspiration. Forced to return to France by the Second World War, he left for Rabat as soon as he could.

He produces posters and decorative panels displayed in major Parisian hotels to promote Moroccan tourism.

At the end of his life, he moved to the Côte d'Azur, where he was able to return to landscapes more or less similar to those in Rabat, and continue his work as a painter.
