The life of Jean Carzou

Karnik Zouloumian, better known as Jean Carzou (1907 - 2000), was born in Syria.

Born into an Armenian family and orphaned, he first studied at the Lycée Français in Cairo, where he won a scholarship to the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture. He then frequented the painters of Montparnasse and took courses at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.

He exhibits at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne, as well as in several foreign countries, including Japan and the United States. At the same time, he also created decorations for several plays.

He entered the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1977 and designed his own sword.

He produced Rimbaud's Illuminations, an important lithographic collection, which explains the large number of works of this type on the auction market.

Throughout his career, he has focused on drawing and the importance of composition.

He died at the age of 83.
