Artist's style and technique

Eugène Alluaud is a painter belonging to the Crozant School, a group of painters active in 19th-century France who produced landscape paintings.

Eugène Alluaud, forgotten painter of the 19th century

Eugène Alluaud (1866-1944) was a French painter who produced landscape paintings and is associated with the Crozant school, named for its location in the Creuze.

He was born into a family of porcelain makers, directors of the Limoges Porcelain Factory. He also began his career in porcelain, winning a silver medal for his work at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.

At the same time, he developed his painting skills at the end of his secondary studies at the Lycée Condorcet, where he befriended Jules Adler. He then studied at the Académie Julian with Bouguereau and Robert Fleury.

He was strongly influenced by Impressionism, then by Cézanne and the beginnings of Cubism.

During and after the war, he produced numerous drawings, which he published in the press.

He died in 1947, aged 81.

Eugène Alluaud's imprint on his era

Eugène Alluaud succeeded in creating a unique style of painting that reflected the energy of his time, and made unrestrained use of contrasts of form and color, the keystone of his artistic style and the hallmark of the Clozant school.

He was a painter of landscape scenes who was fairly well known during his lifetime, but who is forgotten today and still of great interest to collectors.
