Rembrandt Bugatti was an Italian animal sculptor who worked mainly in bronze. He did, however, produce drawings in preparation for his sculptures. He was influenced by Paul Troubetzkoy, a Russian sculptor who himself followed in Rodin's footsteps.

Rembrandt Annibale Bugatti (1884 - 1916) was an Italian sculptor born in Milan.

Born into a family of artists, his father being Carlo Bugatti, he received a first-rate artistic education from an early age. His name may sound familiar to the general public, since his brother, Ettore Bugatti, is the founder of the Bugatti brand. He began sculpting as a child, encouraged by his two masters, Giovanni Sergantini and Paul Troubetzkoy; first with plastiline, a material that was easy for a child to work with freehand, as illustrated by his first work depicting four cows and inspired by the Italian mountains.

He moved to Paris at the age of 19, where he quickly obtained a contract with a foundryman, working exclusively with him in lost-wax casting, in silver and bronze. His foundryman, Hébrard, imposed an original edition with strict numbering and a limitation, which helped to boost his reputation. He exhibited at all the official Salons, but found himself limited by the opportunities for inspiration offered by Paris, and moved to Antwerp, where he took zoo animals as his models.

However, the First World War brought his career to an end. The foundry closed, and many animals were killed and mistreated. Rembrandt Bugatti joined the Italian Army and worked with the sick for the Red Cross, after which he contracted tuberculosis.

The sculptor committed suicide in his studio in the 7th arrondissement of Paris at the age of 31.
