Édouard Marcel Sandoz, his life and work

Swiss artist Édouard Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971) became a leading figure in 20th-century art. He moved to Paris to attend the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. He enjoys sculpting animals, and his works often feature rabbits, fennecs and birds. He creates many table services, including suites of salt and pepper shakers, carafes and teapots. For these objects, he works with porcelain from Limoges and Sèvres.

Bronze is one of the preferred materials he uses in his work, enabling him to create larger works than porcelain, and to work on details in a different way. His subjects are always animals, and he applies different bronze techniques to them: enamelled bronze for fish, patinated bronze for wild animals, and gilded bronze for smaller subjects such as birds.

Edouard Marcel Sandoz's imprint on his period

Edouard Marcel Sandoz is a well-known artist among sculpture and painting enthusiasts, and the author of an absolutely considerable artistic output. Today, most of his works are held by private collectors, increasing their value and success on the auction market.

His bronzes are particularly prized because they are absolutely unique pieces that reveal the artist's inspiration and way of working, but his sculptures are indisputably his most famous and prized works, constantly breaking records on the auction market.
