Vouet began his artistic career studying with his father, the painter Laurent Vouet, before traveling to Italy to hone his skills. He spent many years in Rome, where he was strongly influenced by the style of the great Italian masters such as Caravaggio and Titian. His stay in Italy marked a major turning point in his artistic development, helping him to master the technique of chiaroscuro and adopt a more dramatic Baroque style.

On his return to France in 1627, Vouet became the official painter to King Louis XIII, marking his status as a court artist. He played an important role in the spread of the Baroque style in France, introducing new artistic ideas and training numerous pupils and disciples.

Simon Vouet's works include portraits, religious subjects, mythological and historical scenes. His style is characterized by dynamic compositions, vivid colors and skilful use of light and shadow to create dramatic effects. He also contributed to the ornamentation of many French palaces and churches, leaving a lasting imprint on 17th-century French art.
