The life of Hans Zatzka

Hans Zatzka (1859-1945) was an Austrian painter born in Vienna.

The artist is also known as Pierre de Ronsard or Joseph Bernard, different signatures that can be found on his works.

He studied at the same town's art school, developing a fairly classical style with painters Carl von Blaas, Christian Ludwig Griepenkerl and Carl Wurzinger.

He developed his work around religious and mythological iconographic programs, adopting a neo-classical style, sometimes close to symbolism. He also produced a number of still lifes of flowers and vegetables.

The artist was commissioned on several occasions to decorate churches, notably in small formats.

Hans Zatka is a relatively well-known artist in Austria, but not in France.

Some French collectors, however, seek out his work. His value is high and stable, and although some of his works are held in museums, collectors play the greatest role in preserving his work.
