At the 1900 Exposition Universelle, he represented the United States on the awards jury, after setting up his own workshop in 1884 - where he installed his own foundry.

In 1901, he won the Grand Prix at the Saint Louis Exhibition, and ten years later became a foreign correspondent in the sculpture section of the Académie des Beaux-Arts.

He was a member of several art-related academies in the United States, and in 1923 was elected a foreign associate of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

His work focuses mainly on animal and military subjects.
