Rating and value of the artist Auguste Pelletier
The artist Auguste Pelletier has left behind him a very singular body of work, producing mainly illustrations. Prices for his works are now rising under the auctioneer's hammer. His paintings are particularly prized, especially by French buyers. The price at which they sell on the art market ranges from €30 to €47,260, a significant gap but one that speaks volumes about the value that can be attributed to works by Auguste Pelletier. In 2005, a watercolor depicting a male couroucou sold for €50,000, whereas its estimate was between €15,000 and €20,000. In the 2000s, the value of his works was at an all-time high. However, they are not rare on the auction block, and collectors still seek them out. Auctie's recently sold a watercolor of a parrot for €18,000.

Auguste Pelletier, a forgotten figure of the 19th century
French artist Auguste Pelletier (active 1800-1847) became a major figure on the art market thanks to his scientific illustrations of birds.
A French artist, he spent his entire career in London, where he painted mainly birds, flowers and landscapes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Old Watercoulour Society and the Royal Watercoulour Society.
Most of his works are scientific watercolors depicting different bird species and detailing their main characteristics. However, he has also produced compositions depicting birds in a landscape.
Very little is known about his life and artistic training to date.
