Margaux wine characteristics

Château Margaux is mainly made from Cabernet Sauvignon, with varying proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine offers subtle aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, violet, tobacco and cedar, combining elegance and complexity. The Margaux terroir, characterized by deep gravel and clay soils, contributes to the wine's unique quality, giving it a silky texture and well-integrated tannins.

History of the Château Margaux vineyard

The Château Margaux vineyard has a rich and prestigious history stretching back many centuries. Located in the Bordeaux wine region of France, it is famous for producing exceptional wines.

The history of Château Margaux begins in the 12th century, when the property is mentioned in historical documents. However, it wasn't until the 17th century that the vineyard really took off under the management of the Lestonnac family. Over the centuries, various owners contributed to the estate's renown, but it was in the 18th century, under the management of the Marquis de la Colonilla, that the vineyard reached its apogee.

In the 19th century, Château Margaux was bought by the Mentzelopoulos family, who invested heavily to modernize the facilities and improve the quality of the wines. The estate went through difficult times, including two world wars, but always managed to maintain its reputation as a grand cru classé.

Today, Château Margaux is run by the Mentzelopoulos family and continues to produce some of the world's most prized wines. Its exceptional terroir, traditional know-how and commitment to excellence make it a jewel of Bordeaux viticulture, with a history that lives on in every sip of wine it produces.

The success of Château Margaux

Château Margaux wine enjoyed great success in the 19th century, and is still highly prized by wine collectors and connoisseurs today.
