The history of Cassina

The Amedeo Cassina company was founded in 1927 in Italy, a country at the time heavily involved in furniture manufacturing and marketing. The Cassina brothers, Umberto and Cesare, founded the company in Meda, in the Brianza region. The main vocation of the publishing house was to market wooden tables and furniture, which it has never lost to this day. In the early days of the company, however, production was artisanal, but it had to adapt to demand in the post-war period, and so began mass-producing furniture in the 1950s: it adopted the logic of industrial design, even if thorough control was still exercised over the quality of materials and the assembly of parts. This logic was also reflected in the receipt of large orders for new cruise ships, which needed to be furnished. In 1954, the still family-run company won the first edition of the Compas d'Or award, further consolidating the reputation it had already acquired in the United States. Backed by a team of experienced, world-renowned designers, Cassina organized the "Italy, the New Domestic Landscape" exhibition at the MOMA in New York in 1972.

Iconic furniture designers

In order to grow and acquire worldwide renown, Cassina has surrounded itself with the greatest designers of the 20th century. They include Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, Mario Bellini and Victor Magistretti.

They are emblematic names of twentieth-century design, who have left their mark on contemporary furniture and contributed to the worldwide success of Cassina editions.

Recognizing Cassina furniture

In most cases, furniture is signed by the designer (for Charlotte Perriand, for example, there is no signature) and bears a serial number. However, expertise is essential to ensure the originality of your furniture.
