History of Colt M1911 revolvers

The M1911 revolver, also known as the Colt ACP (automatic colt pistol), was the semi-automatic of the US Army for almost 75 years, until 1985. Most of these pistols were manufactured by the Colt gun factory in Connecticut. The pistol was used extensively by the armed forces of the West during both World Wars, and was America's prescription weapon of the First World War. It remained in use even longer than the French Saint Étienne revolver.

The pistol was designed by John Moses Browning, and production began in 1911. In 1926, it was subtly modified, and the Colt ACP revolvers produced were the M1911A1 (see first photo). Other gunmakers began making Colt pistols, including the Singer Company and Remington Rand. These manufacturers would influence the pistol's current value on the auction market.

A license is granted to the Norwegian Kongsberg factory.

The Colt ACP quickly became a popular weapon on the American firearms market, and there are many copies and weapons inspired by this model.

The success of Colt ACP revolvers

Colt ACP revolvers are very popular at auction, as they are in demand as collector's items. Production was relatively consistent, as this was a weapon produced for the army, which explains why prices don't exceed €2,000.

The Colt M1911, for example, appears in Ridley Scott's The Black Hawk and Apocalypse Now. It can also be seen in Johann Sfar's biopic of Gainsbourg.
