Style and technique of Cartier jewelry

Cartier jewelry is often made in gold. Iconic iconographic programs have been developed by the house throughout its history: the nail, the trinity jewel (three intertwined rings of white, yellow and pink gold), the panther, the bracelet and the love ring (mostly in yellow gold, which can only be screwed on and off with a screwdriver supplied by the house).

Reasons to auction a Cartier jewel

Cartier gold jewels are timeless pieces that are very popular on the auction market. Often seen in auction rooms, these objects are not lost on collectors, who are able to obtain pieces that are no longer sold by Cartier.

The love bracelet

Cartier, taken over by Louis-François Cartier in 1847, designed the first Cartier bracelets in 1969, thanks to designer Aldo Cipullo, who came up with this model after a break-up in the New York workshops. With its simple, uncluttered design and the addition of screws and rivets, it was a revolutionary creation. He insists on marketing the bracelet as a pair. Designed to be mixed-use, the love bracelet is intended for daily wear, sealing a contract - since it can only be opened with Cartier's signature screwdriver. Worn by some of the most famous couples of the time, the love bracelet has become legendary. Its diamond-paved version was launched in 1979. Since then, its success has grown, prompting Cartier to regularly increase the price of this jewel.

Aldo Ciupullo is also behind the Juste un clou bracelet, in which we find the same quest for simplicity and discretion.

Panther iconographic program

Shortly after the creation of the company, Louis Cartier appointed Jeanne Toussaint Artistic Director in 1933. A timeless figure of elegance and femininity, she was already nicknamed "the Panther" at the time. As soon as she took up her post, she created a number of pieces based on this symbol. Available in the form of rings, bracelets and watches, the panther coat is constantly reinvented, reflecting the technical prowess and exceptional quality of the materials used by Cartier.

Trinity ring

Louis Cartier, the house's emblematic director, never ceased to innovate in the search for new jewelry, surrounding himself with the greatest artists and designers throughout the 20th century. In the 1920s, he asked his friend Jean Cocteau to imagine a unique piece of jewelry - a "triplement saturnienne" ring. The first sketches of the jewel were found in the company's archives as early as 1924. It consists of three intertwined, undetachable rings: one in yellow gold for love, another in pink gold for fidelity, and a final one in white gold for friendship. Jean Cocteau himself offered the jewel to Raymond Radiguet, and became the face of this unique piece of jewelry created to represent commitment. Now iconic, the Trinity ring is also available as a necklace and earrings, sometimes adorned with diamonds, as in the case of the Love bracelet.

Recognizing an original Cartier jewel

The counterfeit market is increasingly strong in manufacturing all kinds of dupes, including luxury jewelry pieces. On online platforms, the resale of these items is constantly increasing, and many customers are being tricked. That's why, even if there are techniques for recognizing genuine Cartier jewelry, such as looking at the signature (which can also be counterfeit), if you think you own a piece of Cartier jewelry, it's essential to have it appraised to date it and be sure of its authenticity.
